Originally, they retailed for about $99. Just use quality 3rd-party ink, syringe-fill thru a small hole drilled in the lower rear area of the cartridge, and save major $$$ on consumables. The last model supporting disc printing is the Pixma iP4500. I used a 3rd-party print tray and online instructions to enable the hidden feature within older Canon Pixma models. After discovering that Canon has unfortunately discontinued this very important feature from their product line, I had to find a replacement NOW. I bought this printer to replace a previous Canon model which had been serving me faithfully for the past 3 years, then developed a fatal fault and refused to function further. With printable DVD media such as Taiyo-Yuden Watershield(tm) discs Taiyo Yuden WaterShield - 50 x DVD-R - 4.7 GB 16x - white - ink jet printable surface - spindle - storage media, paper labels and smudged inks are a thing of the past. and their ink-monitoring chips can be defeated or reset. They are easily refillable, high capacity (newer cartridges have 30% LESS in them).
No clogs or leaks. I barely managed to obtain one, having to pay almost 3 times the original price to get it. My primary print jobs are basic everyday documents, the occasional photo on glossy paper (always beautiful and FAST)and, most important of all, printable DVDs. No mess, no regrets. Now they are worth their weight in gold. A dealer had some unopened stock remaining in inventory, and I got lucky. The other great reason to own one of these gems is the ink cartridges. I use Hobbicolors inks purchased via eBay, very economical.Currently, no other manufacturer except Epson offers a home printer with disc print capabilities. If you've never tried them, these glossy, waterproof discs are perfect for your disc needs.
I contacted Canon and they said they could offer me a discount on another of their printers, no thanks. I purchased this printer Canon ip4500 because the reviews here looked pretty good and I have a Canon scanner and on a friend recommendation. I know most of us have gotten use to a product only lasting a year, two if lucky, but I'm so tired of buying products like this that are not inexpensive, having problems for months only then to throw it out and buy another make. It printed fine the first few months but then the yellow cartridge stopped printing. I have replaced the cartridge twice, run all the maintenance and alignment solutions and nothing has worked. Very disappointed. Do not buy this printer.
This is a good printer but I do not believe Canon makes it any more. I especially like the dual paper trays, small size, and speed at which it prints both documents and photos. I did not give it five stars because some of the small pieces - paper cassette cover and paper holder end seem to be very cheaply made. It also works well with generic ink cartridges and I will not be held prisoner by printer companies who charge exorbitant prices for ink.
I like everything about this printer except that it is not wireless capable. All printers on the market should be.The colors are bright, black is black, and it prints out very fast.
Every photo printed on this printer has a purplish hue. THis is ok printer as long as you don't want to print photos. I have tried many different variations of settings, adjusted setting on my CPU and on my photo editing software, contacted customer support and nothing has corrected the problem with the color. The ease of use is great, no problems with paper feed or being able to adjust settings. It prints fairly quick with decent quality unless you want photos. THe exact same pics when printed on another printer come out perfect so I have been able to rule out my CPU or photo editing software as the problem. I will definetely be buying a different printer for photo printing.
